Valley Senior Services (VSS) and Casselton partners are thrilled to announce the opening of a new senior meal site in Casselton at Martin’s Lutheran Church. Starting November 1, 2024, nutritious meals will be served to seniors (60+) on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays at 11:30 am. This new site aims to provide seniors in the community with access to healthy and delicious meals in a social setting, prepared by licensed registered dietitians to meet Older Americans Act standards.
Seniors are encouraged to sign up for meals by 12:00 pm the day before, either by signing up at the meal site or calling (701) 347-8219. The suggested donation is $4.00 per meal, although no one will be turned away due to an inability or unwillingness to donate. Donations are confidential and greatly appreciated, as they help offset the full cost of each meal, which averages around $11.75. Contributions go directly back into the program and can be made at the meal site, by calling the VSS Home Office at (701) 293-1440, or online at valleyseniorservices.org/donate. Seniors who wish to use SNAP benefits toward meal donations are also encouraged to call the home office.
“We are excited to extend our services to Casselton,” said Kassandra Emanuel, Program Manager of Valley Senior Services. “Casselton has shown strong community support, and we are proud to provide seniors the opportunity to enjoy nutritious meals and connect with others.”
The establishment of the meal site is the result of partnerships between Valley Senior Services and several key Casselton community organizations, including the Casselton Community & Economic Development Office, City of Casselton, Casselton Park District, Casselton American Legion Club, Casselton Silver Threads Senior Club and Martin’s Lutheran Church.
Adrienne Olson, Community & Economic Development Director for Casselton, expressed why this initiative is vital to the area: “Casselton is home to more than 300 residents over the age of 65. In addition, there are 90 households where someone 65 or over is living alone. We are grateful to all the partners who came together to provide low-barrier congregate senior dining in Casselton, which plays a crucial role in supporting our older adults.”
She added, “It’s more than just a meal—it offers social interaction, support, and access to vital resources. Our seniors are a precious population in our community, and we will continue to look for ways to ensure Casselton provides what they and their loved ones need.”
To register for meals, call the meal reservation line at 701-347-8219 and provide your name, phone number, and the dates for which meals are being reserved by noon the day prior. Alternatively, meal reservations can be made by signing up in-person at Martin’s Lutheran Church.
