Q: Who are the volunteers delivering meals?

Meals On Wheels volunteers are members of the community, local businesses and students. A background check is completed prior to the volunteer being assigned a meal route. To become a volunteer, please view our Volunteer page.

Q: Do I have the same volunteer each day and can they visit with me?

Our volunteers vary from day-to-day and their time is limited due to having other meals to deliver.

Q: What days do Meals On Wheels get delivered?

Meals are delivered Monday-Friday. We do not deliver meals on major holidays.

Q: Do I receive a meal if the weather is bad?

We make every attempt to deliver meals in bad weather. All weather related announcements are posted on local TV stations and KFGO radio.

Q: How much do the meals cost?

There is no set fee per meal. Donations toward the program are welcomed and help with the increasing demand for meals in the region.

Q: How long can I continue to receive Meals On Wheels?

Your Resource Specialist does a follow-up evaluation after 30 days of the service. If it is determined the service is to be continued, we will do periodic re-evaluations

Q: What should I do if I cannot be home during meal delivery time?

Please call our office by noon the day prior to cancel or make other delivery arrangements. When the meal is not cancelled and delivered unsuccessfully, this results in added cost to the program, limiting our ability to serve others. Volunteers are instructed to not leave meals if you are not home.

Q: What if I don’t answer the door when the volunteer arrives?

If no one answers the door when the volunteer attempts to deliver the meal and an arrangement has not been made, the emergency contact is notified to ensure your safety.

Q: What if I am gone for a few days or if I am admitted to the hospital?

If you are gone for a few days, please call (or have someone call) our office to notify us so that we can discontinue your meal service until you return home. This ensures the meal does not go to waste and the volunteer does not attempt to deliver your meal.

About Meals on Wheels

The Meals on Wheels program aims to provide one hot, nutritious meal per day for individuals who are 60+ in age, home-bound, and meet our eligibility standards. Volunteers throughout the community will drive meals to the homes of seniors who are entered in our program.

Meals are offered to seniors on a contributory basis to offset the cost of providing this service. All meals follow standards set by the Older Americans Act.

How do I donate towards Meals On Wheels?

To donate:

Mail a check in the preaddressed envelope you receive at the end of each month. Checks can be made payable to Valley Senior Services.
Make an meal donation online by visiting our Meal Donation page.
Call us at (701) 293-1440 to make a credit/debit card donation over the phone. We accept Visa, MasterCard, Discover and SNAP benefits.

Meals On Wheels volunteers cannot accept donations.
